Description of property:
A detached house of great character,
restored to preserve its traditional features
and surrounded by a large garden, situated
on the outskirts of the village of S. Paio de
Mondego in central Portugal.
The property was built in 1928 and was the
big quinta of the village. Built of brick, the
property has been completely renovated
with new double-glazed windows, floors,
new roof timbers, fully-insulated roof, and
new drains including an option to connect to
the mains drainage system. The internal
shutters and doors have been replaced in
the traditional style. The main house is
entered via the front path flanked by 2 palm
trees, through the front door which opens

and plumbed-in washing machine, azulejo
wall tiles and a wood ceiling. Further along
the passageway, at the front of the house,
is a room that could be used as a bedroom
or an office, with wood floor and ceiling and
2 sets of windows. Upstairs the landing
extends to a door that opens on to a
balcony at the rear of the property with
external steps down, and views over the
garden and land beyond. At the end of this
balcony there is a storage room housing the
water-heater providing water for the
bathrooms. Off the landing there is another
spacious bathroom with bath, a tiled floor
and azulejo wall tiles; a bedroom/office with
wood floor; a large bedroom with 2
windows, wood ceiling and wood floor; and
a further large light bedroom with the
original wood ceiling, 3 windows with
shutters, and lovely views towards the Serra
da Estrela mountains. Outside there is just
under an acre of level, fertile, well-
maintained and fully-fenced garden,
surrounded by woodland. There are many
different mature trees growing on the land,
including an orchard with 40 olive trees,
quince, apple, pomegranate, tangerine and
orange trees, an old plum tree that shades
the patio, and vines. There is also a well-
tended vegetable patch, flower beds and
various shrubs. By the parking area for the
house there is an annex that has been
renovated and re-roofed, that houses the
old adega with wine tanks, and to one side
a studio space with brick floor. Across the
courtyard to the rear of the main house
there is another annex with storage areas,
one housing a bread oven, and the original
WC. In the courtyard there is a small pond,
and an orange and a lemon tree growing.
This property has been lovingly restored
and maintained by its present owners and is
exceptional in its character. It would make a
wonderful family home or B&B location in
central Portugal, being close to the main
road network and the towns of Penacova,
Arganil and Santa Comba Dão, and within
an hour`s drive of the city of Coimbra.
